With his years of public speaking and impassioned oratory, Graham writes simply and well. Much of the book comes from his own experience, while he also makes good use of news stories, anecdotes, and popular culture. It may be superfluous to say, but I am impressed with Graham's close knowledge of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments. He quotes with ease, and his Scriptural references invariably are on point and illuminate what he is trying to say. Let us know what’s wrong with this preview of Nearing Home by Billy Graham.

Nearing Home is a deeply challenging yet touchingly heartfelt look at what it means to grow old. At age 92, the world-renowned Billy Graham tells what he has learned through his own physical decline, the effect aging had on his ministry, the death of his dearly beloved wife Ruth, and the hope of eternal life after the grave. He teaches how to grow old well, lays out common challenges, and gives practical suggestions and Biblical insights. He uses Story to flesh out his teaching, stories from his own life and ministry, stories of people who have written to him, stories of the famous and the seemingly insignificant. He deals with difficult questions people raise, and deals so succinctly - yet humbly and tenderly - with his challengers, with doubters. Through it all, he keeps as his authority and anchor the written Word of God, staying true to it, with clarity, honesty, and faith.
And that is something that has endeared me to this book...just how real and transparent Dr. Graham is in his book. Graham also focuses way too much on Heaven in my personal opinion. Heaven is our goal and our true home, which isn't really the narrative of the Bible. The earth is our home and it will be renewed at the end of all things.

He writes about how important it is to be godly yet relevant in our communications with the younger people we are going to leave behind when we go home to glory. On the positive side, this book felt like it was one of the best of the three books I've read from him. I think it is fairly accessible and down to earth, which I think is where Graham is at his best. I think a good bit of his wisdom on growing older, but still being useful to those around us and to God is great advice. While I maybe wouldn't always agree with his framing or focus at points, I think is overall message is a good one.
Billy Graham keeos his perspective simple and God based. If you’d like to know what’s on Billy Graham’s heart and mind today, then buy a copy of this book. This is a personal, intimate book, and one which I found inspiring.

I am not Graham's target audience for this book, and it was not the memoir that I thought it would be. It is a book about aging and being older, filled with sound advice about things like living wills and bearing the aches and pains of age. While these are things that I (a woman in my 30's) should be thinking about, they are not urgent for me. The thing I loved about this book was how Graham's dedication to and love for Jesus and other people shines through every chapter. While BG and I would have disagreed about some of the finer points of doctrine, his love for God and desire to serve others was admirable and worthy of imitation. So, while the book dragged in some places, it's worth the read.
Graham spends most of the end of the book evangelizing and talking about having a relationship with Christ; not merely believing in Christ, but living it. A ninety-three-year-old evangelist, whose wife Ruth died in 2007, uses his personal experience of aging to illustrate ways to achieve spiritual growth while facing life's transitions. Discusses retirement, health, and grief and suggests viewing one's latter years from God's perspective. Graham makes no bones about the difficulties one faces in reaching the end of one’s life on earth.

So I'm saying that I gleaned very,very much from this book.I think everyone should get this book and read and reread it. I have a better idea of how I’d like to relate with the rest of my family now than I did a couple of days ago when I started reading this book. As we all grow collectively older, it is wise to reflect upon what this means for each generation. I feel like I understand the value of old age, and the wisdom and experience which comes with a long life, better now than before I read this book. Rev Billy Graham is one of the most well known and respected Christian pastors. I am so happy that he chose to write this book about how to live an honorable and useful life as we grow older.

A major difference is that the Dalai Lama does not ask his readers, many of whom are willing to do so, to become Buddhists. Rather, he asks them to follow seriously their own religious path. His teachings are valuable but the teachings of the Dalai Lama are probably closer to me. Dr. Graham addressed the issue of our influence and the legacy we leave behind when we graduate to glory.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I found it's contents practical and insightful. Graham covers a slew of perspectives that help grandkids and kids think about the life and value of their grandparents and aging parents. He also encourages the young to shape their lives now for the person you want to be because character - and more practical situations like finances, relationships, goals - does not change overnight. I think about this often - if I want to be the prayer-warrior Grandma who encourages everyone in her path with wisdom and truth, what am I doing now to cultivate that character? What a great challenge and reminder to use the future to shape our present.

I loved the audio version so much that I ordered a hard copy to read, and re-read, and to mark up the comments at which I kept pressing "repeat" to hear over and over, in hopes of retaining it.
He is candid about the resultant frustration and pain. Each lesson consists of 20 or so ready-to-use questions that get groups talking. Answers are provided in the form of quotes from respected authors such as John Piper, Max Lucado and Beth Moore. These lessons will save you time as well as provide deep insights from some of the great writers and thinkers from today and generations past. I also include quotes from the same commentaries that your pastor uses in sermon preparation. Ultimately, the goal is to create conversations that change lives.
There are a lot of things to consider and Billy Graham brought all of these to the forefront in this book. Reading it reminded me of the many sermons I’ve heard from country evangelist’s sermons filled with anecdotes, Scripture’s woven throughout, and practical application. And what would you expect from a former evangelist but a clear presentation of the gospel and also an invitation to pray for salvation .
This is an easy book to read and I appreciated his message. Growing older is not easy and can easily be depressing if we focus on what we can’t do instead of what we can. Rev. Graham has accomplished so much for the cause of Christ, but he is always humble in his demeanor and writing. I think it's one of those books that I should read once a year and I will be able to gain fresh insight each time.
